We are lucky enough to be young fit college students in Upstate New York. Full body and cardio workouts can improve your daily life so change it up once in awhile and get outside. As we start to embrace the second full week of September, there are some things I'd like to say to the month.
Back again so soon? I could swear I just saw you a few months ago. Well anyway, how are you? That's great because I'm over you already. This isn't some breakup sonnet, this isn't some tearful declaration to my love of summer. This is a direct grievance to your thirty days of filling in between summer at fall. That's right, you are a filler month! I have so many problems with you. First of all, you do in fact, bring an end to the summer season.
How dare you! For a summer lover like myself, September is dreadful, the pools and beaches start to close, amusement parks being to open strictly during the weekends. You push out the warm summer nights and the salt air.
You make us say goodbye to sandy toes and the smell of sunscreen. You're all about back to school and putting away that cute white shirt you can't wear until May. You completely kill the summer vibe with little warning. Second, you're more confusing than a college physics course. One day you want to be ninety degrees and beautiful out but all the pools are closed, thanks a lot and the next you want to be sixty-five and raining?
Just why? Don't you know that the school buildings are never cool enough to stand the humidity that's still here? Don't you know we're sliding out of our seats thinking about how we rather be by the water? You make people pull out their fall attire just to put their shorts back on. And not to mention, being cold in the morning and humid in the afternoon? Like wow. What a sick joke! You kick start the holiday season way too early. Pumpkin spiced everything and plaid everywhere? I'm still enjoying sunglasses and ice cream.
You can't pick a temperature but you want to make me excited for the fall season to come? That's not how it works! And now you try to make us excited with the thought of Halloween creeping slowly closer. There is a WHOLE thirty days between your first day and October's first day, I shouldn't be seeing back to school supplies next to Halloween candy. When you finally start to cool off and change the leaves from green to gold, I couldn't be happier. You are one of the prettiest months, next to October.
Your month inspires people to close doors or chapters in their life in order to blossom in the spring. Pulling out my jeans is the highlight of your month, fall fashion begins to take over and the holidays just roll in after you. You bring us the beginning of football season, bonfires, and nights spent looking at the stars. Although I can't stand your month, there is some enjoyment to it.
It is the beginning of October but most of us college students are still feeling the September Struggle. By this time, many of us have had at least one mental breakdown, 3 assignments due in one day, a Netflix show finished and sleep deprivation.
I believe the 'September Struggle' occurs because of one main reason: our professors decide to make everything due in one week during this month. Granted, this is not the case for all but it sure seems like this is the case every year during this month. You always see it coming, but you never end up being fully prepared.
After it's gone, it'll still leave you reeling for a little while, so take time to appreciate being able to breathe. During this month you don't spend countless hours doing homework at first. Then one week it all hits and you suddenly do not have enough time in the day to do all that needs to be accomplished. Then the 'September Struggle' hits and it hits hard. Next thing you know you'll be walking around struggling to stay awake in class and just trying to get through the week by any means necessary.
However, it's all good cause your classmates next to you are in the same boat as you. Your professors all seem to decide at the same time that they have taught you enough to test you, have you give a presentation, write a paper, and do a group project, all in the same week. During the first bit, it seems easy to stay on top of everything.
You may even be able to sneak some Netflix in. Reward yourself with a new series after you survive September. Once October begins to show things begin to look up. You realize fall break is coming and become re-energized. You take a Friday afternoon to reorganize your life. You take another Sunday to catch up on all the work you have gotten behind on and all your favorite shows you have missed.
You finally find the time to do all of the laundry you have missed between doing homework and curling up in your bed to try to get a few hours of rest before class. By learning a few slang terms here and there, you will be able to communicate in a more relaxed, informal way with your date.
Learn your role in the relationship. Even if you are just beginning to date, you and your partner might have different ideas as to what role each of you will play in the relationship, due to your differing cultures. Be as clear as possible when communicating your ideas. Ask questions. If the language barrier is making it too difficult to do so, you can rely more on research you do on your own.
Part 3. Use language-learning software and textbooks. You might think you can just rely on your date to help get you by and teach you the basics, but your best bet for learning a new language will be textbooks and software designed to help you learn.
There are a great many books and software options for you to choose from. There are many online-based programs you can use, both free and for a fee. Consider how much time you will want to dedicate to learning the language before you make a big purchase.
Read your favorite novels in the language you want to learn. It might seem silly to try to read a book in a different language, but reading is one of the best ways to learn a new language. Reading a book allows you to see the language in action, rather than just word-by-word. Books will teach you all different aspects of the language, including grammar, sentence structure, and style.
Avoid using your date as a constant translator. If you constantly ask your date how to say things in their language, they might start to feel a bit bored or even more like a tutor than a romantic partner.
Try to avoid alienating them by consistently asking them to translate for you. Try to brush up on the basics ahead of time, and use your time together to try to establish your relationship. Use a dictionary. That way, you can look up words on your own and better keep up with the conversation. There are also apps available for smartphones that you can use when you need to translate words from another language.
These apps might be more handy than carrying a physical book. Part 4. Use other forms of communication. Just because you might have difficulty with verbal communication, you can still interact with your partner in different ways. There are types of nonverbal communication you can employ. Use hand gestures and facial expressions to better communicate your ideas.
A study found that vocal tonality and body language were better indicators of the emotion behind the words than the actual words. Be patient with one another. A language barrier can be a tough hurdle to get over, especially in a romantic relationship.
Misunderstandings and difficulty having quick, easy conversations are normal when there is a language barrier. Be prepared for these things, and be patient when they arise.
Even simple discussions about where to go for dinner, or how your day was might end up taking longer than if you were speaking to someone who understands your native language. Clarify any misunderstandings. Like any relationship, being open about these things is pertinent. Cultural differences can lend themselves to unintended disrespect or offense. Make sure you speak up if you misunderstood, and help clarify things to your date if they have misunderstood you.
Lauren Urban, LCSW Licensed Psychotherapist. Focus on clarity rather than eloquence. Even if your sentences have to be shorter and more concise, getting your point across should be the objective. Use short, simple sentences. Emphasize your words with gestures and facial expressions. These kinds of actions might help fill in the gaps left in your actual words. Include your email address to get a message when this question is answered. Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0.
Look for other ways to express an idea to get around a word you don't know. Describe something or act it out. Be patient - it is hard to communicate when you are faced with an impatient person sitting across from you. If you are ready to commit and declare your love forever, we recommend you learn your S.

Dating online does not have to feel difficult or overwhelming, even if you choose to use a foreign online dating site or service. Dating someone who is foreign is possible even if you are not familiar with their native language or if you only know a few common words in the language. Overcoming the language barrier in a foreign online dating situation is essential to continuously strengthen your bond with one another while becoming more comfortable with reading your partner and communicating in alternative ways.
One of the best ways to improve your ability to communicate when dating someone who speaks a foreign language is to immerse yourself in the learning of the language yourself. Use free online tutorials or register for a local foreign language class. Download an app such as DuoLingo to study the language of your choice from just about anywhere. Spend time practicing basic nouns, verbs, and adjectives each day along with specific language rules that apply to the language you are learning.
Create flashcards to reference while brushing up on greetings and common phrases used in conversation to help with speaking to your partner. Non-verbal clues can be viewed via live video or when spending time with one another. If you communicate via video, study how your partner reacts when you are talking, writing, or motioning to one another. Once you begin teaching your native language to a partner who is from a foreign country, it is important to start simple to prevent confusion or causing your partner to feel discouraged and overwhelmed.
Share simple greetings and common phrases, create flashcards together, and use live video to play memorization games as you teach your partner how to properly pronounce specific words. Your partner should also do the same for you to help with the progression of your language-learning.
Use live video to host conversations entirely in the foreign language you are learning, switching languages with each conversation. Learn new words and rules of the language you are studying each week while practicing consistently to retain the information you learn. Spending time with one another learning new languages is not only a way to strengthen your relationship, but it is also a great way to learn how you communicate and solve problems when you are together.
